Why apparel matters most
Golf outing apparel is the gear people see. A field of players in matching hats looks great in photos, makes your event feel organized, and puts your logo on every head on the course. And if the apparel is good, it gets worn again at the next round, the beach and the kids' soccer game.
The trick is picking pieces that feel like something people would buy for themselves, not something they got for free.
T-shirts vs. polos
Custom t-shirts
A soft, heavyweight tee is the most versatile choice for outings, fundraisers and anything with an after-party. We use Comfort Colors, a garment-dyed cotton tee known for its broken-in feel and relaxed fit. It's the tee people grab out of the drawer first.

Logo placement tip: put a small logo on the left chest and a big print on the back. The chest logo looks clean when it's worn day-to-day, and the back print is your billboard. The back is also a great spot for a year, a cause or a list of sponsors.
Polos and quarter-zips
For corporate outings, client golf days and member-guests, a polo or quarter-zip reads a little more upscale. They aren't on our site, but we can source them. Just ask.
Choosing colors
- White, navy and grey are safe bets that go with everything and suit every skin tone and age.
- Match your logo, not your mood. Pick a shirt color your logo stands out on. A navy logo on a navy shirt disappears.
- Staff in a different color. Put volunteers and staff in a different color than players so people know who to ask for help.
Getting sizes right
Sizing is where apparel orders go sideways. The best fix is to collect sizes at registration, with one dropdown on your signup form. If that isn't possible, a common starting split for mixed adult groups looks like this:
| Size | S | M | L | XL | 2XL | 3XL |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Share of order | 5% | 20% | 35% | 25% | 12% | 3% |
Treat that as a starting point, not a rule. Every group is different, so lean toward larger sizes. Someone with a shirt that's a little big still wears it; someone with a shirt that's too small doesn't.
Picking the right hat
Hats are the most-worn outing item there is, and they're one size fits most, so you don't have to collect sizes at all.

$15โ$30 per hat ยท See it on the gear page โ
- Structured vs. unstructured: structured caps hold their shape and make an embroidered logo pop. Unstructured "dad hats" are more relaxed.
- Snapback vs. fitted: snapbacks adjust to fit nearly everyone. Fitted hats look sharp but need sizing.
- Rope hats: the rope across the front is a fun, retro look that's having a moment on the course.
- Colors: navy, black, white, grey and light blue are all popular. Mixing two colors across the field is a fun touch.
Simple, bold logos embroider best. If your logo has tiny text or very thin lines, a simplified version for hats usually looks better than shrinking the full logo down.
Minimums and timing
Our t-shirts start at 60 pieces with a 3โ4 week lead time, and hats start at 50 pieces with a 2โ3 week lead time. For apparel, plan on reaching out 6โ8 weeks before your event so you have time to collect sizes. Our complete planning guide has a full week-by-week timeline.
